Mascara Mark-Up
All About Mascaras:
Mascara is one of the easiest way to open up your eyes. Even the tiniest lashes can benefit from this product. Read on for more about my top 3...
#3 Maybelline's Full & Soft Mascara in Black -- around $8 Plus: An all-time classic mascara, makes lashes feel long without clumping or irritating your eyes. Minus: Not the best for night-time dramatic eyes. Better for subtle daytime beauty.
#2 Urban Decay's Big Fatty Mascara in Black -- $20 - http://www.urbandecay.com/categories/BigFattyMascara.cfm Plus: This mascara has a special ingredient -- hemp oil -- to keep lashes soft, not brittle. Minus: At $20 per tube, it's a little more on the higher end. Put this one on your b-day or holiday wish list.
#1 Maybelline's Lash Stiletto™ Ultimate Length Washable Mascara in Black -- around $10 Plus: This is the best lengthening mascara I've ever used. I get compliments a few times a week or people asking if I have false lashes on. Nope, just this great mascara! Minus: Tends to feel "dry" by the end of the day. Definitely not moisturizing like the other two mascaras above.
Application Tips:
1) Do not use waterproof mascara unless you absolutely have to. Waterproof mascara is in a completely different class of mascaras. They are a totally different formula than their washable counterparts. So unless you're overly emotional, avoid the waterproof versions.
2) Start with clean, make-up free eyes. Use eye makeup remover to remove all traces of old eye liner, shadow or mascara that is lingering on your face.
3) Apply one generous coat. I know, you're thinking, but the packaging says "Apply two generous coats -- What gives, Amanda?!" Well, typically the second coat is where it all goes wrong. People over-apply and then it gets clumpy. So stick with one coat.
4) If you're not into following the rules and have to apply a second coat, do not let the product dry in between. This makes lashes brittle, clumpy, and down right awful to get off later.
Happy beautifying!
-Amanda

I use Full & Soft! And I LOVE it. Approved.
ReplyDeleteI love lash stiletto but it is drying and tends to get brittle after a bit:) great blog
ReplyDeletewho spends as much money on any other beauty product as most ladies ( and Adam lambert)do on mascara?
Hauger, i love your blog. very educational, and no one tells the truth with the pizzazz and cut-the-crap attitude like you. two things where you read my mind: wtf with "two coats" of mascara. never understood that in my life. and i also have recently accepted the fact that I am pale! my prepaid tanning sessions will have to go to waste. look at that jessica simpson beauty show on vh1 (like if the remote is lost). women in asia want to get whiter, women in ohio want to get tanner. ENOUGH. i also think as i age, and start to understand the reality of things like wrinkles, you just say, i want to do what i can to keep my skin healthy and smooth. not crispy. -KM
